Newbie Blogger
So I got carried away by some really well meaning people who convinced me that I should definitely try my hand at blogging. It was only when I logged into my Mac Book, which by the way looks Oh so cool in the movies and I instantly felt like a star, I realized there is so much more to writing than just being equipped with a Mac Book and high-speed internet access.
So my journey began. It is safe to say that the next few weeks I was in a tizzy trying to think of a topic to blog on. Every waking moment went into thinking about topic ideas. Should I blog on the challenges of parenting a new-age-gen Y or Z toddler ,which is the phase my life is in right now,or about being a confused "NRI" or the mumbai monsoon? My mind was moving like a cloud drifting in the wind .Anything and everything seemed to inspire me. To avoid a condition of which I heard happens to expert writers, called writer's block, I started to think of a title. Here are a few I came up with....
1."Advise on advice",inspired by my teenage days of pep talks I got from my Dad, when he cautioned me never to give unasked advice, not realizing that he just did that.Of course we had a good laugh about it later.
2. "When in-laws become out-laws",inspired by my ten-year married stretch and which was dismissed by me right away because I knew this topic would need to be written as a book.
3."Diaries of a first time mom" inspired by my parenting skills ...and the list just went on.
Then I resorted to the easiest and most reliable solution, search engines. That is what is called"Sasta and Tikav" in desi terms. The results from the search made me realize what plagues the human mind nowadays, options and choices. Just as I believe that the biggest reason for divorce is marriage , I also believe that the biggest reason for indecision is options. Search engines coughed up a million pages of advice for rookie bloggers ...so now where do I go from here? I decided to go the way my toddler goes when she has to choose everything. EENEE MEENEE MINEE MOE...and hit one link.
Going through the work of one of a very experienced bloggers of today, I found that the very first advice he gave on blogging was to avoid thinking of a title! So I was doing exactly what I am not supposed to do? Oh well, that is according to this particular blogger! I am sure in all the million links that the search engine dug up out there is one blogger who thinks I am going the right way.
I am certain another advice would also be to avoid making the blog too long for fear of losing steam.
So my fellow bloggers and non-bloggers please take a few seconds, minutes ,hours or whatever amount of time your schedule permits and let me know if this rookie blogger has caught your blogging eye.
Hey I m certainly hooked on to this one! Intriguing!!! waiting for more!
